The Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse is located on the western edge of the Shimane Peninsula.
Built in 1903, it's the highest stone-built lighthouse in Japan, with 43.65 meters.
In 1998, it was chosen as one of the World’s 100 Historical Lighthouses, based on its historical and cultural values, and in 2013 it was selected as a registered tangible cultural property of Japan.
Hinomisaki is included in the national parks of Japan.
The view of the Japan Sea around the lighthouse is spectacular.
It’s possible to see the beautiful sunset on the horizon.
There are stairs and hills on the way to the lighthouse.
To get up to the lighthouse, there are winding stairs.
From the JR Sanin main line’s Izumo-shi Station, take the Ichibata bus (to Izumo Taisha-Hinomisaki) 45 minutes, and get off at Hinomisaki.
From the bus stop to the lighthouse, it’s about 5 minutes on foot on a hilly promenade.

There’s a model of a black-tailed gull at the park near the lighthouse. And I could touch and enjoy it. Depending on the season, you can catch the smell of the sea, and hear the “Meow! Meow!” cries of the black-tailed gulls, and enjoy the savory smell of the grilled squid.
