Ōmori-chō has developed as the political and economical center of the Iwami Ginzan territory.
Old temples and houses still remain, inviting the visitors to their times.
The characteristics of the town is its private houses, business houses, samurai houses, hotels, and temples mixed around.
The old houses are restored in a preservation activity to become Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Historic Buildings.
The street of 800 meters has no sidewalks, but there are few cars and wheelchair users can move around unhurriedly.
Strolling is basically on foot, but Velo Taxis (bicycle taxies) and bicycle rentals are also available.
